Exploring another "new country"... Christiania ☮

We had a tour of Christiania today, which is a community in Copenhagen that seems like a different country. According to their charter, Christiania is committed to "create and sustain a self-governing community, in which everyone is free to develop and express themselves as responsible members of the community." It certainly was a colorful place, both literally and figuratively.

There were some very primitive places, to say the least...

Marieke enjoyed the tire swings in Christiania.

This is just one example of the alternative lifestyle in Christiania...grass growing on the roof!

The other grass in Christiania we were not allowed to take pictures of, but I think all of us have a scented souvenir from walking down "Pusher Street" in the "Green Light District" at the end of our tour.

  1. Isn't there an old Christiania saying that " It's better to have grass on your roof than grass in your pipe"?... or maybe I have that backwards:)
